Our Story

Sela

Sela Bucovetsky

Sela Bucovetsky is a mechanical engineer and the manager of RoboStoke, with a passion for robotics, education, and the outdoors.


His journey with FIRST Robotics began in high school, where he served as captain of his robotics team, and he has been involved with the program ever since. 
With over 10 years of experience mentoring and teaching in FIRST programs—including FLL, FTC, and FRC—Sela has worked with students of all ages and has seen firsthand how robotics inspires young people, building confidence, creativity, teamwork, and strong problem-solving skills. 

 

Outside of engineering, Sela is a hiking guide, avid skier, and outdoor enthusiast. Through RoboStoke, he aims to bring that same excitement for hands-on learning and inspire the next generation of innovators in Revelstoke.

Avery Bridge

Avery Bridge is a civil engineer with a passion for teaching, design, and the outdoors.
Over the past few years, she has been involved in teaching robotics and introducing students to 3D design, helping them develop creativity, technical skills, and confidence through hands-on projects. 

 

Avery is especially passionate about encouraging and supporting girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). She is dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment where female students feel confident exploring engineering, technology, and design. 

 

Outside of robotics, Avery is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys spending time in the mountains and exploring the natural beauty around Revelstoke.

Emily Mcdermott

Emily McDermott was introduced to robotics through FIRST during her high school years and quickly developed a passion for STEM education and working with young students.
She is a strong advocate for hands-on learning and enjoys helping students explore science, engineering, and technology through creative problem-solving and teamwork. 

 

In addition to her work in STEM education, Emily is an accomplished adaptive rock climber who competes internationally in para-climbing. S
he has represented Canada as part of the national para-climbing team and earned podium finishes in international competitions, including a bronze medal at a Para-Climbing World Cup event. 

 

Emily’s dedication to both sport and education reflects her belief that perseverance, curiosity, and confidence can help students achieve more than they ever imagined.
Through RoboStoke, she enjoys sharing that mindset with the next generation of young innovators.
