FLL - FIRST LEGO LEAGUE
Join us at RoboStoke as we dive into the exciting world of First Lego League, where young minds build, program, and compete to tackle real-world challenges with robotics!
What is FLL?
First Lego League (FLL) is a global robotics competition where teams design and program LEGO robots to solve real-world problems.
Each year features a unique theme, such as space exploration or renewable energy, with challenges that combine robot gameplay and research projects. FLL fosters creativity, teamwork, and innovation in a fun, hands-on way.
Ages 8 - 14.
What does an FLL competition looks like?
An FLL competition consists of two main components: The robot game and the project.
1. For the robot game, teams build and program a LEGO robot using the LEGO Spike system to complete various missions on a themed playing field.
The robot must be designed to solve tasks that relate to the year's challenge, using sensors, motors, and precise programming.
2. The project involves researching a real-world problem related to the theme, and teams propose innovative solutions, often designing a presentation or prototype. Both the robot performance and the project are evaluated during the competition.
Robot challenge portion
In the robot portion of the challenge, kids will learn block coding to program their LEGO robots, enabling them to complete specific "missions" based on the theme. They'll also focus on robot design, developing creative solutions to tackle different tasks. Throughout the process, students work together as a team, strengthening their collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills.

A typical FLL year
Our FLL season will kick off in early October, where kids will be introduced to the new season theme and challenge.
They can come once or twice a week to work on both the robot missions and the project.
The more they attend and practice, the better prepared the team will be for the competition.
FLL competitions scheduale
The regional competition will be held in Kelowna around late January or early February.
Teams that qualify will be invited to the provincial championship in the Lower Mainland.
The top four teams will have the opportunity to advance to the World Championship in the US.
